Kloud

I had set up a camera in my living room without letting Azuri know it.

It wasn’t to spy on her or anything. I was just in some deep shit that I’d been hiding from my wife. I just wanted her to be safe at all times. The camera had come in handy these days. It was the only way to see my wife’s beautiful face.

The minute Chyn walked out the door, I opened the surveillance app and reviewed footage from my home. Today, I saw my wife crying for hours on end and as a man, it shattered my heart into pieces. She was innocent in everything that was been happening. In my quest to protect and provide for my wife, I grew greedy and fucked up the best thing I’d ever had.

I remember she was a sheltered rich kid who got whatever her heart desired and I was a broke orphan who worked part-time with the cleaning company that her father had hired.

She talked to me with respect. She pulled me from the streets and showed me another way of life. We fostered a close friendship until the day she cried on my shoulder that her father was too controlling and didn’t approve of the friendship.

I had vowed that I would work hard and gain some money, some status and her father’s respect so that she could love us both in harmony.

But I had ended up impregnating her when we were both seventeen years old and she chose me over her dad and an abortion. She left her rich family, bright future and comfortable home to weather the storms of life with me.

But unfortunately, she’d suffered a stillbirth. To this day, she is still broken. I’d broken all the promises that I’d made to my wife, but I did it all

so that she could regain her status and be proud to

wear my name. I realized way too late that nothing much mattered to her except my love.

I tried calling my wife many times per day and I watched many times on the camera as she declined my calls.

Dear God, I don’t know how to fix this. Please touch my Zuri’s heart with your loving hands. Open her heart, oh Lord, and make her like You who forgives seventy times seven. Selah!

I closed the surveillance app and rested my head on the arm of the couch. I thought of Chyn. I respected her. She worked hard and was independent. I see all her awards of recognition plastered on the walls in different sections of her home, but I’m yet to see her getting ready for a 9-5 job.

She’s clearly well off because she lives in an upper-class

neighbourhood, wears expensive clothes and spares no expense when she goes shopping for herself or me.

She was no Azuri. My wifey would never even attempt to buy a man. Azuri helps to build me, she’d never try to buy me. I’ve gotta be forever grateful.

Everything I know, I picked up from the streets and I seriously believe in the idea: ‘give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.
